Day 72 - Monday 16 July 2012

Eighty Mile Beach to Broome

We awoke this morning to a temperature of 20 degrees - That was the overnight minimum Frosty - not the maximum. The forecast for Broome today is a maximum of 31 degrees. Before we finalised our pack up this morning we had to help out our neighbours who come from Warrnambool in Victoria because they had been on their site for nearly 2 weeks without starting their car, and they had a flat battery. David provided some heavy duty jumper leads that helped solve their problem.

We packed up and got away from the caravan park at about 9:10 am after a visit to the dump point. We had the 10 kms trip of red dust and corrugations on the way back out to the highway where we turned north for Broome - today's trip was 370 kms. We are pleased with the seals around the van as we had no red dust inside the van after the trip out on the corrugated dusty road. We stopped about 40 kms up the highway at the Sandfire Roadhouse for a fuel top-up as there is no fuel until the Roebuck Roadhouse just outside Broome. We also had a morning coffee before moving on. We stopped at a rest area after another 2 hours for a lunch break.

We arrived at the Broome Caravan Park at about 2:20 pm and were allocated site 152 for 7 days. The site must be one of the most difficult in the park as David had to back the van at an angle between 2 trees to postion the van onto the double slab site. It took us about an hour and a half to do a full set-up for our stay in Broome. At 4:00 pm David decided that a chilled refresher was in order and settled down in the shade. It was 31 degrees when we arrived, but by 4:00 pm it was down to a more pleasant 28 degrees.
