Day 73 - Tuesday 17 July 2012

Broome

Another great day in Broome with a forecast temperatures of 15 to 28 degrees. Our first task this morning was to ring our insurer Ken Tame (CMCA Insurance Scheme) to see what our vehicle insurance policy covered in the way of a new windscreen, as our windscreen is cracked nearly all the way across. David was told that stone chip repairs were not covered, but a windscreen replacement was covered subject to a $100 excess. Novus and Windscreens O'Brien will both do the repairs and bill Ken Tame directly, and no insurance claim form is required.

As the low fuel warning indicator had come on as we arrived at the caravan park yesterday, our first stop this morning was a Woolies/Caltex outlet for diesel. Second stop was the local Novus Windscreens outlet (Windscreens O'Brien are not represented in Broome) , to book the Navara in for a new windscreen. Luckily they have Nissan Navara windscreens in stock and could do the repair first thing on Thursday.

Next stop was Bunnings to buy a 1 1/16 inch socket, had to make do with 27 mm, to replace the anode in our gas hot water heater. We also bought a few washers and screws to repair a roller in our awning that helps when rolling up the awning. We had not realised that it was broken until it fell out as we set up the awning yesterday.

We went to the Paspaley Shopping Centre to visit the Post Office and collect our mail - not much mail had been redirected so we are finally getting on top of our snail mail and converting most of it to electronic mail. Across the road we visited the local drive through BWS outlet for a re-supply. Most of the customers were in taxis as they do not own their own cars. I thought that I had done well in steering Di away from the Paspaley Pearls outlet.

We visited the Visitors Centre for info on tourist activities available in Broome and in the Kimberleys. The Visitors Centre is located next door to a pearl outlet "The Courthouse Collection" and Di could not help herself and made a purchase.

After lunch we visited the Boulevard Shopping Centre that has a Woolies supermarket for supplies as it had been about 10 days since we had been inside a supermarket of any size. Di made an appointment for a hair cut so we will be back in the morning while the Navara is being serviced. While we were at the Shopping Centre we ran into Nick and Christine Tall who were also doing a bit of shopping. They are also in Broome until next Monday so we will catch up again before they leave.

They have travelled through the Kimberleys from Kunanurra, and will head for Barn Hill after they leave Broome as the continue on their way south. We hope to get some info on their recent travels as we will continue through the Kimberleys to Kunanurra and Katherine before heading to Darwin for a couple of weeks.

No photos today.
