Still in Townsville

Day 59 - Monday 8 July 2013

Forecast today for Townsville is 17 to 27 degrees and partly cloudy. Today was the Opening of the Legal Year so this morning we attended a Service of Prayer for the Judiciary, the Magistracy, the Bar and the Friends of the Legal Fraternity at the Townsville City Mission. The service was conducted by the representatives of the churches in Townsville as well as a Supreme Court Justice, a couple of District Court Judges and members of the local legal profession in Townsville. After the service we joined the legal profession for morning tea at the Queensland Club.

Following morning tea Di and David joined Chris to attend a couple of Court Sessions and watched the proceedings in the Supreme Court, before moving on to the District Court to watch proceedings including the empanelling of a jury for a criminal trial. All in all a very interesting exercise to see the Law in action. After our visit to the Courts David and Di headed for the shops for papers, lunch, and a visit to a pharmacy to get all out prescriptions filled. Then it was back to the caravan park for a bit of a rest before dinner later in the evening.

Later in the day we joined John and Chris at the Watermark Restaurant on the Strand in Townsville for dinner. Di and Chris had Calamari with a side salad, while John and David both had Tasmanian grass fed beef rib on the bone, with sautéed seasonal mushrooms, pancetta, kipfler potato, and red wine jus. We followed up an excellent meal with a shared cheese platter. A Kiwi Squealing Pig Sauvignon Blanc and a Barossa Yalumba Patchwork Shiraz helped it all go down.

No photos today.
