Townsville to Bowen
Day 61 - Wednesday 10 July 2013
12.07.2013
After a leisurely breakfast we were finally on our way to Bowen. There were a lot of road-works on the way and we were held up several times waiting for traffic coming the other way. The road-works probably added about an extra 40 minutes to what should have taken about 2 hours 40 minutes. We stopped for morning tea at The Coffee Club at the Burdekin Shopping Centre in Ayr - flat whites with savoury scones.
We arrived at the Harbour Lights Tourist Park in Bowen at about 1:30 pm and booked in for 3 nights - we were allocated site 26, a nice roomy site with a shady tree. Given that it was a bit windy we did not bother with the awning. We had initially tried to book into the Horseshoe Bay Caravan Park, but could not get into it or any other nearby caravan parks. After a quick set up we walked into the town for a bit of a wander around. Bowen's recent claim to fame is for being the movie set for Baz Luhrmann's production of "Australia". The Grandview Hotel was a major feature in the movie.

Later that afternoon the Managers of the Caravan Park put on a free sausage sizzle with entertainment by the pool.
