Nambucca Heads - Day 7

Day 111 - Friday 30 August 2013

Another fine day in Nambucca - 14 to 24 degrees and sunny.

It was a bit cloudy when we woke this morning and we had about 10 spots of rain on the roof of the van while we were still in bed. However the cloud soon blew away and we ended up with another nice day, although it was a little breezy, 15 knots gusting to 30 knots.

After lunch we went for a drive to Taylors Arm for a drink at the Pub With No Beer. The history of The Pub With No Beer dates back to 1943, when farmer Dan Sheahan went to the Day Dawn Hotel in Ingham, north Queensland, only to find American soldiers had drunk the pub dry of beer. With a glass of wine in hand instead, he penned the song A Pub Without Beer. Country singer Gordon Parsons adapted the song to A Pub With No Beer, basing it on his own local at Taylors Arm, then called the Cosmopolitan Hotel. When his friend Slim Dusty recorded the song in 1957, it became an Australian chart-topper.

We sat outside in the beer garden amongst the Bird of Paradise flowers and enjoyed a couple of drinks in the sun.
