Deloraine to Forth

Sunday 16 February 2014

We had more rain off and on overnight, but woke to a nice sunny day. Forecast for Forth was mostly sunny with a temperature range of 13 to 22 degrees.

We left Deloraine at about 9:45 am and arrived at the Forth Sports Ground soon after 10:30 am. A big day in the saddle today - only 60 kms! There were more than 20 vans at the sports ground, and many of them use the this spot as there last stop before catching the Ferry to Melbourne. The Sports Ground is a free camp on the Forth River and could probably cater for about 50 vans. The time limit - apparently not rigidly enforced by the caretaker - is 3 days, and there are toilets and fresh water available. Even better there is diesel available at the local servo for $1.629 - the cheapest we have seen in Tassie for a long time. The free camp is provided by the local community in the hope that travellers will spend a bit of money in the town. We have been to the servo and the shop today and are planning on tea at the pub tomorrow.
