Southport - Day 8

Day 55 - Thursday 21 August

About 22 degrees today but very windy.

Today was day 1 of the Pan Pacs Swimming Championships - we were glad that we were not in the exposed grandstands - very windy today!

David spent the morning checking our batteries. He removed both batteries to check the electrolyte levels in each battery cell using a hydrometer. Battery one was perfect with no action required. Battery two had two cells slightly down in electrolyte, which were topped up, while the others were perfect. The two cells that were topped up were also down on specific gravity - fair to good rather than perfect. The two cells were given a dose of Recharge - which is mainly phosphoric acid that reduces the sulphation of the battery plates and hopefully will rejuvenate the cells. Only time will tell. The batteries are 6 years old after-all.

In the afternoon David helped Frosty have a look at his batteries. He has been having problems with his 12 volt supply which occasionally shuts down and turns the lights and fridge OFF. We started by checking the batteries which were sealed and maintenance free - they appeared to be OK and fully charged. The C-Tek battery charger appeared to be OK, and the solar charger also appeared to be OK. While we were doing this the 12 volt supply shut down again and the fridge and lights went off again. As a last resort we checked the Battery Protector - 14.5 volts in and nothing out. It seems that the Battery Protector has failed after periods of intermittent operation. Thankfully the Caravan Doctor was in the park and was able to bypass the battery protector as a temporary solution until Frosty gets back to Melbourne.

That evening we went to our club - Club Southport for the Schooner of Beer and Pizza Special for $10.00. Once again Di traded the schooner of beer for a glass of wine.

No photos today.
