Southport - Day 16

Day 63 - Friday 29 August 2014

Sunny and 22 degrees in Southport today - thankfully no breeze this morning and only 15 knots forecast for later in the afternoon.

At 10:45 am we were picked up from the caravan park by Brendan and Lyn for the drive into Brisbane. As we neared our destination Brendan's Car GPS suggested we do a right turn off a flyover to get to the road underneath. David's Samsung Navigon navigation software saved the day. We were meeting John McNamara an old Mini-hash member from Hobart. John works in the timber industry and left Tassie more than 15 years ago to pursue other opportunities on the mainland. Probably just as well as the greenies have killed off the timber industry in Tasmania.

We met at John's office in Hendra (a northern suburb of Brisbane) and drove to the Breakfast Creek Hotel for lunch. The Breakfast Creek Hotel is a very popular venue with a large beer garden. The steak eaters all had excellent meals but Di's Barramundi was not the best she had ever tasted.

After lunch it was back in the car for the return trip to the Gold Coast. It was very busy on the Pacific Motorway, probably because it was a Gold Coast Show public holiday, and we were also in the "schools out" window. Back at the caravan Park Brendan and Lyn joined us for a relaxing glass of red before they made their way home.
