Still in Melbourne

Day 6 - Thursday 16 May 2013

We started the day with a return visit to Chadstone for a bit of shopping and lunch. David had to return a rugby top to Myers to get a security tag removed, and Kirrily was looking for a Blu-Ray player as her DVD player had died. After lunch we headed for a nearby Bunning's Superstore to get a stud finder, as Kirrily had a few jobs around the apartment for David to do. The stud finder was needed to identify reinforcing and electrical wiring embedded in the rendered brick walls. On the return journey we stopped at Spotlight so Kirrily could buy some new curtains.

The rest of the afternoon was spent installing curtain rods and tie-backs on the lounge room and bedroom windows.

No photos today.

A Day Trip to Lorne

Day 5 - Wednesday 15 May 2013

Kirrily had the day off today so we decided on a trip to Lorne on the Great Ocean Road for lunch. The day turned out overcast with increasing showers as the day went on. We followed the M1 Freeway from Melbourne to Geelong, but bypassed Geelong and headed for Torquay for our first stop.

After leaving Torquay we followed the Great Ocean Road to Anglesea then on to Lorne. On the way we made a couple of photo stops, between the showers.

When we arrived at Lorne it was raining again so we cruised up and down the Esplanade looking for a place to eat. Being a wet day in May there was not too much open - with shops and restaurants mainly closed. Finally we settled on the Lorne Hotel and had a very nice lunch. After lunch we returned to Melbourne by the same route with increasing showers arriving back at Melbourne at peak hour.

Another day in Melbourne

Day 4 - Tuesday 14 May 2013

We had agreed to remain at home this morning and wait for a visit form an Air Conditioner repairman - luckily he turned up at about 9:00 am and was gone within half an hour. The bad news is the air conditioner is beyond repair and needs to be replaced.

With the rest of the day to ourselves we headed for the Chadstone Shopping Centre for lunch and a bit of shopping. Why is it that women always need more clothes than men do????? We also went into JB HiFi and found a Topfield 320 GB twin tuner PVR at a bargain price of $195.00.

Back at Kirrily's apartment we put a shoulder of lamb in the oven to slow roast for dinner - it was cooked for about 5 to 6 hours. The lamb was delicious and was accompanied by roast vegetables. An excellent Riddoch Coonawarra Shiraz helped it all go down.

Dropping the van at Braeside

Day 3 - Monday 13 May 2013

We were up early to pack up for the trip to the Trailblazers factory at Braeside. It was still raining but we managed to pack up between showers and got away just before 8:00 am. By the time we got to Braeside the rain had eased and Phil was waiting for us to arrive. We agreed the work that was to be done - some minor repairs, a new power point and a general service. Hopefully all will be completed in a week and we will be on our way again next week.

After handing over the van we went to the nearby Red Pillar Café for a breakfast of raison toast and coffee. After breakfast we headed for Kirrily's place at Windsor and "moved in" for a few days. After dropping our bags it was off to the Woollies supermarket and BWS for some essential supplies. Back at the apartment David spent some time on the phone trying to track down a Black Wolf Directors Chair with blue fabric to match the one we already have. We located a chair at the Anaconda store at the Springvale Homemakers Centre which turned out to be the home of the Ikea store that we had visited last year. After buying the chair we checked out JB HiFi and Harvey Norman looking for a reasonably priced PVR to install in the van - but nothing suitable.

Melbourne to Frankston

Day 2 - Sunday 12 May 2013

We were woken up at 5:45 am and advised that unloading would start at about 6:30 am with the truck decks 3 and 5 being the first to go. We were off the boat fairly quickly and on our way to the Big4 Caravan Park at Frankston. As we drove away from the ferry terminal we were greeted with a magnificent sunrise.

We arrived at the caravan park at 7:30 am and waited for the office to open at 8:00 am so we could check-in. We were allocated site 106 - a drive through site. We did a very basic set-up, power and water only as we will be leaving early the next day to take the van to Trailblazers at Braeside.

After showering and having breakfast we rang Kirrily and arranged to meet for a Mothers Day Lunch at Sails on the Bay at Elwood. Lunch was a special three course meal which we accompanied with an outstanding Whitebox Heathcote shiraz that went down very well.

After lunch we returned to Frankston for the night. As has become a usual event when we stay at the Frankston Caravan Park we had heavy rain overnight.
