Dicky Beach - Day 5

Day 77 - Friday 26 July 2013

While we had a little rain overnight today's forecast is mainly sunny with a temperature of 12 to 21 degrees.

Today we had a lunch engagement at the Loose Goose Restaurant at Twin Waters, which is on the northern side of the Maroochy River. We were catching up with Dale and Suzie who live at Marcus Beach, just south of Noosa; and Rob and Donna from Hobart who are holidaying at Alexandra Headland near Mooloolaba. Twin Waters was something of a convenient mid-point. We had an excellent lunch and it was great that we could all catch up again.

Back at Dicky Beach we decided that a drink at the Surf Club was called for - for Frosty's benefit it is now our Club! Over a drink or two we whiled away a few hours with a couple of 10 game Keno tickets and a punt on the pokies. Needless to say we did not win our fortune - maybe next time.

Dicky Beach - Day 4

Day 76 - Thursday 25 July 2013

Another fine day at Dicky Beach - partly sunny with a forecast temperature of 11 to 21 degrees. After breakfast we went for a walk along Dicky Beach before taking to the streets to walk to nearby Moffat Beach for a coffee and a cake.

Later in the day we drove to Maroochydore looking for a supply of Bio-Magic from camping and caravan stores. While we were not successful we did find a supplier who has undertaken to obtain a supply before we leave Dicky Beach next week. We then headed for Sunshine Plaza for a walk around and a few purchases. On the way back to camp we stopped at Jaycar for a 4-way HDMI switch to simplify the wiring of our electronic boxes - Vast satellite box, Blu-ray Player and PVR video recorder.

Dicky Beach - Day 3

Day 75 - Wednesday 24 July 2013

We woke to a nice sunny day with a forecast temperature of 11 to 21 degrees. Today we drove to look at the Glasshouse Mountains, then continued on to Bribie Island for lunch. Our Drive took us through Landsborough, Beerwah, Glasshouse Mountains, Elimbah, and Caboolture; before taking us across to Bribie Island with Bongaree and Woorim. We returned to Dicky Beach on the M1 - Bruce Highway.

At Glasshouse Mountains we stopped at the Information Centre for brochures and maps before driving up to the Glasshouse Mountains Lookout that give a panoramic view of all the mountains in the vicinity.

After taking a few photos at the Lookout we drove over to Bribie Island for lunch. After crossing the Bribie Island Bridge we drove to Bongaree where we had lunch at the Blue Anchorage Restaurant. Di had Fish of the Day, which was Dory, while David had a Seafood Pasta, which included Mussels, Prawns, Scallops, and Reef Fish fillets. Both meals were excellent. After our lunch we drove across to the other side of the island at Woorim. Woorim is a relatively small town with minimal retail facilities, but the obligatory Surf Club.

Dicky Beach - Day 2

Day 74 - Tuesday 23 July 2013

It rained practically all night last night - Caloundra had 10 mm in the last 24 hours mainly overnight. We spent a nervous night wondering whether the re-sealing of the front hatch had fixed the leaks that we had in Bundaberg. Good news - we have no leaks! The forecast for today is mostly sunny with a temperature range of 8 to 20 degrees, although 8 degrees is a bit on the chilly side.

David was up early to take the Navara to Sunshine Coast Nissan, which was only about 2.5 kms away, for a 120,000 km service. They promised to have the service done by 1:30 pm, then drove David back to the caravan park, with a further promise to pick him up when the service was done. Excellent service which is not always forthcoming at other dealers.

Later in the morning Frosty and Marg came by and suggested a coffee across the road at Dicky's Café. It was good to catch up face to face after spending many months following each others blog-sites. Di and Marg spent their time comparing fossicking experiences with a bit of show and tell on the gemstone front. Di's enthusiasm for a bit more fossicking has been rekindled - I'm not sure whether that is a good thing or not.

Later in the morning we went for a walk around the caravan park to check out the facilities - the park is much larger than we had thought. There are more than 300 sites with about 100 being permanent sites. We were pleased to find a drive up dump point near the back of the park so we will using it before we leave next week.

We rather like this park with its shopping strip across the road and the Dicky Beach Surf Club at the back door and the beach nearby, so we plan to stay here for about 4 weeks next year. People making bookings of over 4 weeks have to wait until after 23 October to make a booking so it is in the diary already.

We spent the rest of the day sitting in the sun reading - very pleasant. We finished the day with home made pizzas for dinner cooked on our pizza stone in the BabyQ. The trick is to get the stone very hot before putting the pizzas on the stone - they take about 10 minutes to cook and the crusts come out very crispy - very yummy!

No photos today.

Dicky Beach

Day 73 - Monday 22 July 2013

Forecast for today at Dicky Beach 11 to 21 degrees and cloudy - in fact as the day has progressed the cloud has become heavier and I would not be surprised if it rained later. Its nice having the shops across the road as we needed milk for breakfast so got the papers as well. Later we went for a walk starting at a café across the road then walked out onto Dicky Beach. On the way back to the caravan park we called in to the Dicky Beach Surf Club and signed up for three years membership for$8.00 - how good is that! Dicky Beach is named after the SS Dicky, an iron steamship that ran aground in 1893.

After lunch we drove to Currimundi which is about 2.5 km away for fuel and groceries at Woollies - we wanted to check out where Currimundi was as we are getting the Navara serviced there tomorrow. Its a major service - 120,000 kms - so will probably take all day. Its 10,000 kms since we left home so we will also have to get the Cooper Tyres rotated and balanced later in the week to maintain the 80,000 km warranty. We also drove over to Caloundra to get some more Sikaflex at Bunnings to replace what we had used on the roof yesterday. On the way back we drove down to Moffat Beach for a look see - Michelle recommends the pizzas and it is within walking distance from our caravan park.
