Tallebudgera Creek - Day 9

Day 29 - Saturday 26 July 2014

Another nice day on the Gold Coast mainly sunny and 22 degrees.

Yesterday we missed out on buying some grey rubber annexe mats at the caravan show as they had sold out. So we decided to visit the showroom of Coastline RV at Biggera Waters (a round trip of 70 kms) to buy direct. They were also sold out but had some mats with water damaged bags that we would be able to clean up, which they sold to us at a discount. We were able to clean the bags so all is well.

Apart from trips to Bunnings for Sikaflex sealant and Woollies for groceries we spent a quiet day back at camp reading the weekend papers.

Tallebudgera Creek - Day 8

Day 28 - Friday 25 July 2014

Another beautiful day on the Gold Coast - mainly sunny and 24 degrees.

Today was day one of the Gold Coast Caravan and Camping Expo held at the Gold Coast Turf Club at Bundall. Being Friday we thought that today might be less crowded than Saturday or Sunday. Not sure that it would make much difference as the place was packed. The Expo was laid out in the car parks, while the car-parking was mainly around the race track. There were a large number of caravans being exhibited, a handful of 5th wheelers and various motorhomes of all sizes.

The first exhibitor inside the main area was Australia Wide Annexes - we have been thinking of buying an annexe and had been looking at a Fiamma Privacy Room specially made for out Fiamma awning. However we have also been looking at other awnings around the caravan park, and yesterday we were spectators for the installation of an Australia Wide Annexe on a nearby caravan. We were impressed and checked out the awning on display at the Expo and booked Colin to come to the caravan park on Monday to do a measure and quote. They have told us that it would take about 2 weeks to make the annexe. That time frame would fit in with our plans as we leave here on Wednesday for 2 weeks on the Sunshine Coast, before returning to Southport on the Gold Coast for another 2 weeks.

The caravans on display included a great number of new vans that that we have never heard of before nor ever seen on our travels. In general caravans seem to be getting larger and larger - and as Di pointed out they all have very nice bathrooms. Avida (formerly known as Winnebago) had a display of motorhomes plus several of their new range of caravans. There were several Sapphires on display, and we checked out a few of them as Di has not yet seen your caravan Chappy - she liked the bathroom!

Tallebudgera Creek - Day 7

Day 27 - Thursday 24 July 2014

Another beautiful day in paradise - mainly sunny and 22 degrees.

We spent the whole day cleaning the van and the ute inside and out. They both look like new again.

The caravan park have a number of activities for people staying in the park.

Mondays - Golf at 1:00 pm. Wood-fired Pizzas at 5:00 pm followed by Movie night at dusk.

Tuesdays - Tai Chi at 7:30 am near the pool.

Wednesday - Water aerobics in the lap pool at 9:30 am.

Thursday - Sausage sizzle at 12:00 noon at the recreation room.

Friday - Water aerobics in the lap pool at 9:30 am. Computer classes at 2:00 pm.

So far we have been so busy and have not had time to participate although we were tempted by the smells emanated from the sausage sizzle today.

No photos again.

Tallebudgera Creek - Day 6

Day 26 - Wednesday 23 July 2014

Todays forecast for the Gold Coast was partly sunny with a temperature of 21 degrees.

After enjoying the sun while we read the papers, we made a trip to Bakers Delight for some rolls for lunch, then called round to the Varsity Lakes train station to get ourselves a couple of "go cards" to use on the trains, busses and trams. They are similar to the Myki cards in Melbourne and the Opal cards in Sydney. We are planning a trip into Brisbane on Saturday using the train instead of driving. We called into Bunnings on the way back to camp - we were looking for some rubber matting to use under the awning but they do not stock what we wanted, so we will have to check out a caravan parts supplier. We will leave that until after the Caravan and Camping Show that is on at the Gold Coast Race Course this weekend.

After lunch we did a reconnoitre to the Race Course at Bundall to check out the location and the parking arrangements, and filled up with diesel on the way back to camp. We paid $1.539 at Woolies/Caltex which is considerably cheaper than $1.669 we paid before we left Tassie.

Tallebudgera Creek - Day 5

Day 25 - Tuesday 22 July 2014

Forecast for today was cloudy and 22 degrees with a few showers later.

Not much action today - a trip to the supermarket for a lamb roast for dinner, and a trip to Pacific Fair so Di could make a hair appointment for next week at a salon that she has used before. Our usual parking spot up the ramp and onto the roof is no longer available and resembles a bomb site with extensive construction works in progress. We found some parking outside the covered areas which have 2.1 metre height restrictions. The whole place is looking a little tired and deserted, no doubt feeling the competition from the Robina Shopping Centre.

During the afternoon we had a few showers and by about 4:30 pm we had very heavy rain with thunder and lightning that went on for a couple of hours.
