Southport - Day 3

Day 50 - Saturday 16 August 2014

A dull grey cloudy sky today with periods of heavy rain - the temperature still expected to get to 21 degrees however.

As it rained on and off all day we spent our time in the caravan watching footy on the TV. We have had much more than the forecast 30 mm and more rain is forecast for tonight.

No photos today.

Southport - Day 2

Day 48 - Friday 15 August 2014

The day started out sunny but clouded over later in the afternoon, but we had temperatures in the low 20s however. The forecast is for showers later with heavy rain forecast for tomorrow.

As we will have to wait another week for our annexe we got out our shade screens and finished a full set up.

Southport - Day 1

Day 48 - Thursday 14 August 2014

Sunny with some cloud and a temperature of 20 degrees, although it felt cooler as there was a breeze for most of the day.

We were up early this morning waiting for Colin and Louise from Australia Wide Annexes to arrive and install our new annexe. Colin was busy early installing the new draft skirt to the side of the van, and Louise started unpacking the annexe. Bugger! When Louise unpacked the annexe panels, they appeared to have a manufacturing fault - so they have arranged for a replacement to be made next week. Tomorrow Colin is coming back to make some minor adjustments to our Fiamma Clip System, before taking some final measurements.

Suffice to say Di is not happy - she has been looking forward to getting the new annexe for some time. We have now decided to stay a bit longer at Southport - our site is available until 7 September so we have extended our booking until then. Our plans to go to Wilcannia, Broken Hill and Mildura will be put on hold until next year perhaps.

During the day we were chatting to Ted, our neighbour on the next site and we talked about our site last year that was in the "permanent" part of the park. He told us that the Parks Management had a plan to move the permanent vans out of the park - wait for the occupants to die it seems. Later in the afternoon we went for a walk around the park - and saw the results of those plans. An old permanent van was being loaded on a truck for removal.

Dicky Beach to Southport

Day 47 - Wednesday 13 August 2014

Mainly fine and a maximum of 21 degrees.

As we had packed up yesterday it only took about half an hour this morning to finish the process. We made a visit to the drive-up dump point in the back of the park and were on our way at about 9:30 am. Apparently it was a Public Holiday today for the Ekka - better known as the Queensland Royal Show in Brisbane, which runs for 10 days each year. Out on the highway it did not appear to have made much difference as there were still plenty of trucks. Even so the trip was uneventful as we traversed the Bruce Motorway, the Gateway Motorway and the Gold Coast Motorway - a total of 168 kms which took just over two hours.

We arrived at the Broadwater Tourist Park at about mid-day and checked in for two weeks - we were allocated site 66, which is in the southern end of the park - as it turned out we are quite close to Frosty and Marg who have a similar rig to ours. We did an easy set up as we are expecting Australia Wide Annexes to arrive early in the morning to fit our new annexe. Later in the afternoon Frosty and Marg came over for a couple of cold refreshers. They told us all the details of the fire that completely destroyed Frosty's parents place in Melbourne - thankfully they are both well after their ordeal.

Dicky Beach - Day 13

Day 46 - Tuesday 12 August 2014

Another mainly fine day today with a maximum of about 21 degrees.

This morning we made another visit to the supermarket for a few odds and ends. After lunch we spent the remainder of the afternoon slowly packing up as we are leaving in the morning for Southport on the Gold Coast.

No photos today.
