Dicky Beach - Day 6

Day 39 - Tuesday 5 August 2014

Mainly sunny today with a maximum of 21 degrees.

No action today - three trips across the road to the shopping strip for papers this morning, then bread for lunch and an ice-cream this afternoon. Later in the afternoon we went for a walk around the caravan park and found another 5th wheeler. The tonneau cover on their Ute - also a Navara - had been modified to allow it to be used when they are hitched up. It has the advantage of keeping things dry in the tub when its raining. Food for thought!

Dicky Beach - Day 5

Day 37 - Monday 4 August 2014

Weather today is some cloud with a maximum of 21 degrees. It is still a bit breezy however. Last night we had a bit of rain with a couple of heavy downpours, and we could hear the surf pumping on the beach all night.

This morning we made another trip to the supermarket and a visit to Spotlight so Di could get some crafty things - she is going to crochet a rug, I think it is a granny thing. We seem to be going to the supermarket every couple of days - must be the result of a small fridge and freezer in the van.

After lunch we walked around to Moffat Beach and as the tide was out we walked back along the beach, managing to cross Tooway Creek without getting our feet wet. There were a few surfers and boogie boarders, but no swimmers today.

Dicky Beach - Day 4

Day 37 - Sunday 3 August 2014

Today's weather was a little cooler, intermittent cloud and a maximum of 20 degrees. There was also a fresh breeze that made it feel cooler still.

After an early lunch we decided to do the tourist thing and drive to the Glasshouse Mountains. First stop was the Glasshouse Mountains Information Centre for a few maps and brochures, then we drove on to the Glasshouse Mountains Lookout. We returned to Dicky Beach via Landsborough but being Sunday everything was closed.

Dicky Beach - Day 3

Day 36 - Saturday 2 August 2014

Slightly cooler today at about 23 degrees and mainly sunny.

We spent the day hanging around camp - Di reading and David tidying up the hard-drive on his laptop. The laptop had really slowed down mainly because of lack of free space on the hard-drive. He copied over 20 Gb of photos to DVDs and removed some duplicated files and now has about 40 Gb of free space on the hard drive. He also disabled a few programs, including Skype and Automatic updates and a noticeable speed increase is evident.

At about 6:00 pm we headed over to our club - The Dicky Beach Surf Club for a few pre-dinner drinks and dinner. We both had Eye Fillet Steaks with baked potatoes and vegies accompanied by Garlic Prawn toppers. An excellent meal and the Wolf Blass Gold Label Barossa Shiraz was petty good too.

Back at camp we sat back and watched Geelong play North Melbourne. A good result for the Cats who are still chasing a top two finish - Go Cats.

Dicky Beach - Day 2

Day 35 - Friday 1 August 2014

Very warm day today with a clear sky and a temperature of 26 degrees.

We needed some more Bio-Magic for the holding tanks so we headed up to Maroochydore as there were supposed to be two agents located there. The first, a local caravan repairer had never heard of it and tried to sell us something else, while the second has closed for two months while they relocate to new premises. We will have to wait until we get to Southport in 10 days or so.

Second stop was Sunshine Plaza so that David could have a haircut, while Di wandered around the shops. We followed up with a wander through Myers then lunch at the Coffee Club.

After lunch we decided to check out the Cotton Tree Caravan Park where a lot of Tasmanians stay when in Maroochydore. Cotton Tree is a very large park - about 400 sites - located at the mouth of the Maroochy River. The park has the usual collection of waterfront sites, slab sites and grass sites but is not as tidy and well maintained as Tallebudgera or Dicky Beach. The park was almost full however with very few vacant sites.
