Rutherglen to Melbourne.

Wednesday 13 September 2017

A bit overcast today with the threat of occasional showers.

From Rutherglen we headed south to re-join the Hume Highway at Springhurst and continued south east to the M80 Western Ring Road north of Melbourne. The M80 was fairly busy with road works to widen the road not helping. Eventually we were able to turn left onto Ballarat Road which took us straight to Braybrook and the Ashley Gardens Caravan Park. As we arrived before the show week build up we were allocated drive through site
53, one that we have been on before.

After a quick set-up we headed into the City as we were staying a couple of nights with Kirrily and Ian at their apartment on Flinders Street. That evening we walked to to a very nice restaurant at the nearby Federation Square.

No photos today.

Yass to Rutherglen

Tuesday 12 September 2017

Mainly fine and sunny again for our trip to Rutherglen today.

After a detour into Yass for newspapers we were on our way at about 9:00 am.

Again the traffic was fairly light, and we stopped for fuel and lunch at the Gundagai South Service Centre.

We arrived at Rutherglen at about 2:30 pm and after unhitching the caravan David paid a visit to Campbells Winery for a mixed carton on their best wines, and some fuel at the local servo, before returning to the park to hitch up again for a quick getaway in the morning.

No photos today.

Sydney to Yass

Monday 11 September 2017

We were up early as today were were going back to the caravan park to pack up and continue our journey south.

We were on our way to Yass at about 9:30 am via Delhi Road, then the M2, M7 and the M31 - better known as the Hume Highway. The exit from Sydney is very easy and the traffic was fairly light. We stopped for fuel and lunch at the Marulan Service Centre, before continuing on to Yass. The caravan park at Yass is operated by the local Council and is very tidy with good facilities. While we did not manage a drive-through site we did get a very long site the enabled us to stay hitched up for the night.

The park is quite close to the Town Centre so we walked in to Yass to see the sights and go to the local Woollies for a few supplies. Yass was first settled in 1835 and has quite a few old buildings. Like most towns on the Hume Highway Yass has been bypassed and has very little through traffic.

Sydney Day 4

Sunday 10 September 2017

Another fine and mild day in Sydney for a family get together.

Matt and Bin and their three girls, Coco, Willow and Goldie together with their Border Collie; and Andy Lee and Henry joined us for lunch. Rebecca was away in the Northern Territory on a work trip through some of the Aboriginal Communities of Arnhem Land.

Sydney Day 3

Saturday 9 September 2017

Another fine and mild day in Sydney - but not warm enough for shorts.

Today was a lazy day after a couple sightseeing around Sydney. A morning walk to Artarmon shops for a coffee, then a drive to a nearby nursery. Although Di could not buy any plants as they can not be taken back to Tasmania, she did manage to find a decorative rain guage.
